Space Energy

Generate in space.
Store. Deliver.

Energy for satellites, spacecraft, and future bases. We are defining how to generate, store, and deliver power in space.

  • Development plan
  • Service not available

Intended uses

Power for spacecraftand future bases.

By building the interfaces and evidence each satellite, spacecraft, and base requires, we aim to make energy shared infrastructure for space.

01

Satellite

Deliver the energy an orbiting satellite needs, when it needs it—expanding service life, capability, and operational freedom.

02

Spacecraft

Energy systems that support spacecraft navigation, habitation, communications, and life support.

03

Space Station

Generation, storage, and management for sustained operation of crewed and uncrewed stations.

04

Moon & Mars

Local energy infrastructure for bases, hotels, research, industry, and mobility.

One connected system

Generate. Store.
Deliver. Monitor.

We are considering generation, power use, and monitoring as one connected system. The methods and interfaces remain undecided.

  1. 01GENERATE

    Generation method: OPEN

  2. 02STORE

    Storage / thermal control: OPEN

  3. 03DELIVER

    Delivery interface: OPEN

  4. 04MANAGE

Proposed sequence · Not formally adopted

From ground models
to proposed orbital tests.

Everything below except the Ground Digital Model in the formal plan is a sequence for future consideration.※1

  1. GROUND MODEL

    Digital Model

First define generation, storage, power delivery, thermal behavior, and communications using numerical models and synthetic data.

    IN FORMAL PLAN
  2. GROUND EVIDENCE

    Safe internal demonstration

A candidate internal ground demonstration that avoids hazardous high-pressure and combustion work while establishing measurement and failure conditions.

    UNDER CONSIDERATION · NOT IMPLEMENTED
  3. OWN ORBIT

    Copernicus Energy Pilot

A candidate pilot that delivers energy to a Copernicus-owned receiver and verifies its use. Platform, interface, and timing remain OPEN.

    LONG-TERM CANDIDATE
  4. EXTERNAL

    Independent external pilot

After internal demonstration, consider a pilot with an independent external customer, including a contract, price, and acceptance conditions.

    LONG-TERM CANDIDATE
  5. SERVICE

    Commercial Energy Service

Offer a service only where the technology, demand, safety, legal framework, responsibility, and insurance have all been established.

    LONG-TERM CONCEPT · NOT OFFERED

Proposed orbital pilot

A proposed pilot for
receiving and using power.

The proposal would use a separate Copernicus-owned receiver to check that power is received and used, and compare records from both ends. Delivery method, output, interface, and timing remain undecided.※2

AI and human responsibility

AI supports the work. Humans make the final decisions.

Development AI

Accelerate design, calculation, and comparison

Supports requirements, model creation, potential abnormal conditions, documentation, and review preparation.

Safety AI

Detect signs of danger and STOP when needed

The design direction is for Safety AI to issue a STOP only within predefined, approved conditions. This is not implemented. Only the accountable human authority may decide GO, release a STOP, restart, or accept risk.

Human authority

Final responsibility remains human

GO, HOLD, STOP, release of STOP, risk acceptance, crewed GO, legal, quality, and contracts are decided by accountable human authorities.

The plan and
where we are today.

Notes

  1. ※1
Technical demonstration, external demand, contracts, and responsibility boundaries must be verified separately; internal testing alone does not prove market demand.
  2. ※2
Open decisions: Power delivery method, output, interface, EMI, thermal behavior, safety, receiver platform, and orbital inclination remain undecided.
